“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
I bring a unique, personal, yet professional, experience to my work with clients. I have been through infertility and the emotional ups and downs of wanting a baby so desperately yet coming to the realization that I won’t have a biological child. I have been through the emotional difficulties and fear of adoption, again desperately wanting a child, and finally getting a child. I have had the realization that having a biological child isn’t what is important; having a child is. I have been the caregiver for aging, dying parents and can understand how you lose yourself. Then when they are gone, trying to discover who you are again, where you are now going, how to redefine your life when you are no longer a “caregiver.” I have experienced the struggles of having a family member caught in addiction, wanting to help yet unable to do so as only they can help themselves.
I believe each of us has the strength to move beyond what is holding us back, but sometimes a little support and guidance is needed. I am here to support, guide, help my clients find their path and direction. I help people in transitions to restore their sense of calm, purpose and control using a holistic approach. Focus is on restoring a balanced and positive mood and overall well being. (See my page on Holistic Therapy for more info https://kathleennelsoncounseling.com/holistic-therapy/)
My approach is focused on where the client is and where they want to go; it is collaborative and incorporates family systems, cognitive-behavioral and problem-solving strategies. The integration of the mind-body-soul is key. Using my personal experience to help me understand where you are. I work with clients in the traditional face-to-face office setting but I also have appointments using HIPAA compliant telehealth. Additionally, I hold sessions outside with Walk & Talk therapy. My goal as your therapist is to work with you to establish a relationship built on trust and safety. I blend my approach techniques for each client in a way that will best address their needs.
